Laser Process Engineer

Primary responsibilities:

  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities while working with cross-functional teams
  • Define operational procedures for laser processing tools. Develop next generation laser tools based on process needs
  • Work with EHS personnel to develop procedures to ensure health and safety requirements are met with respect to laser equipment
  • Troubleshoot and eliminate down events on process tools
  • Utilize DOE to explore processing windows and improve capability of the manufacturing process
  • Organize and lead large improvement projects
  • Tool and process ownership to meet or exceed goals such as uptime, process capability, yield, and module performance

To be considered, candidates must have the following background:

Education and Certifications

  • BS degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or other suitable technical degree

Specific skills and knowledge

  • At least 5 years of manufacturing experience with laser ablation of thin films, semiconductor photolithographic exposure equipment, or industrial laser scribing systems
  • Special consideration will be given to candidates with greater levels of experience working with complex equipment in high volume manufacturing
  • Experience working with teams in a matrix organization
  • Highly motivated self-starter with a proven track record in the laser processing of thin films or critical layer photolithographic semiconductor processes
  • Background in the laser equipment or the semiconductor industry
  • Experience with laser scribing or ablating photovoltaic or semiconductor thin films
  • Knowledge in automated controls systems and complex motion control systems is preferred
  • Experience in problems relating to registration and alignment
  • Managed vendors through long term projects/upgrades and lines down technical problems
  • Led a team of multi-disciplinary engineers through equipment, process, and manufacturing improvements
  • Troubleshoot and eliminate down events on equipment
  • Experience writing work instructions relating to operations and process control
  • Experience in setting up a control plan with control charts, response to out of control events, and capability analysis (JMP, DOE, SPC)
